Orginally from a small town in southwestern Virginia, Ashland Evans currently resides and creates in Napa, California. Starting from a very young age Ashland has loved art and spent his youth learning various mediums, styles, and techniques mostly through self-teaching and some professional training through workshops and classes. Although he has created using traditional and common modalities such as drawing, painting, and graphic/web design, he has expanded and diversified his portfolio in recent years, now focusing mostly in integrating his art into functional items that centers around people, food and wine.
I try to incorporate two major themes/intentions behind every piece I make: function and connection.
The main goal is to make my art functional and something that can actually be used.
If you notice, most of my custom pieces have a purpose/functional use. All items are made to be durable, heat resistant, food safe if needed, and survive everyday wear and tear.
I try to make products that encourage socialization, conversation and togetherness.
As a very social person, bringing people together and making memories are very important to me and I hope that shows in my art. Many pieces are able to serve/display food, provide storage, protect and/or preserve, as well as conveniently travel alongside on a picnic/adventure.
I use many different mediums, such as, acrylics, alcohol inks, watercolor, oil pastels, charcoal, resin, engraving, etching, vinyl, as well as many others. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own unique and sometimes very random way and results in a one-of-a-kind piece of art, most likely on a functional item you may use everyday. All artwork is protected and finished to precision to ensure it may be enjoyed for years to come.
